Dan’s career – 1993 to 2012

.Coaching Sports in USA and UK

Dan has built his reputation as a coach over the last 19 years. His love and talent for teaching developed in his teens. In 1993 Dan began coaching  as an assistant Tennis Coach at his local club. While studying for his Business degree, (from 1995 to 1999) he gained more coaching qualifications and was employed as The Head Tennis Coach and  Head Lacrosse coach for Kent university squads, Christchurch College Team and the distinguished  boarding school Kings School in Canterbury. During these years Dan also worked as a Tennis and Lacrosse coach at Kutshers Sports Academy, voted the best live-in summer sports Academy in North America.

Personal Training in Australia and New York

After graduating with Honors from the University of Kent,  Dan moved to Australia and made the transition from coaching sports to coaching fitness.  He began his formal studies into bio-mechanics, physiology, exercise science and nutrition at the Australian Institute of Fitness.  His career in Personal Fitness Training began here,  in Australia back in 2001.  Dan worked as a freelance Personal Trainer to triathletes and tennis players in Brisbane and set up a popular Weight Loss & Running club in Sydney. From leaving Australia, Dan was hired as an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at an American Football Training facility in New York. While living in New York, Dan added to his Personal Training experience by training individual athletes as private clients. On his return to the UK in 2002 he set up Dan Roberts Training in conjunction with being a resident ‘Exercise & Sports Specialist’ Personal Trainer at LA Fitness Holborn (Central London) and Kingston upon Thames (Surrey). Dan was also in charge of training the in-house fitness staff and set up a part-time Lifestyle Coaching arm of his business, primarily using NLP to help private clients and corporate teams. (He offered this service until 2006.) Dan now uses his understanding of people and coaching  help him be a better Personal Trainer to his clients and Leader to his team.

Building his reputation with Athletes then Models.

In 2005 Dan left his affiliation with LA Fitness in Holborn to train all his clients in London parks and homes. He spent a considerable amount of his time studying new methods of movement and exercise and personally trained a large variety of clients, including professional or full-time amateur athletes from such disciplines as Sprinting, Golf, Tennis, MMA, Muay Thai, Wrestling, Wake-boarding, Skiing, Lacrosse, Surfing, Rock Climbing, Sailing, Triathlon, Boxing, Surfing and Ballet.  From 1997 onwards Dan started to expand from just working with sporty people to focus more on helping  people look better. In 2008 Dan moved to Ipenema, Rio de Janeiro for 6  months and worked exclusively with  top female bikini models from Elite Model Management, helping them  get firmer, toned, and healthier looking bodies for upcoming campaigns. Thanks to an expanding word-of-mouth reputation, Dan has since sculpted Vogue Cover Models, Champion Bikini models, Pop Singers and some of Hollywood’s most well-known and talented Actors. and Actresses. Along with his steady flow of corporate clients, Dan  has built up a track record of getting impressive results with everyone he works with, no matter what they do for a living, no matter how old or young and no matter how unfit they first appear!

Fitness Holidays

In 2009 Dan ran the first of his very popular private 1-2-1  luxury  fitness holidays. (www.ExtremeFitnessHolidays.com). These are exclusive personal fitness and nutrition ‘boot camp’ holidays. They are available in Miami, LA and Rio de Janeiro and Marrakesh. They involve around 7 hours of daily personal training with Dan or one of his Team.  There are 3 basic types of holiday available. In 2009 Dan also started to travel with his clients for short work trips which he has since done extensively in the Middle East, Asia Europe and America.

Fighting Muay Thai and Training Trainers

In 2009/10 Dan took 5 months off to develop his studies into  the combat art of Muay Thai. He lived as a full-time fighter in Thailand and trained and sparred with world champions of the sport. On his return he wrote a series of nationally approved (by REPS)  qualifications in Muay Thai instruction. Dan teaches this qualification along with Kettlebell, Personal Trainer and Fitness Instructor qualifications through his partnership with the leading fitness industry education provider ‘Be a Better you Training’. Dan is a Master Tutor and Fitness Qualification examiner for this organisation. In 2010 Dan started Mentoring Personal trainers to gain more skills and success. – he has since been employed by over 50 freelance Personal Trainers and now offers a unique 15 week Mentoring Course. Dan also started hiring and training up more trainers to work under him in help him better serve his expanding client base. In 2011 Dan Roberts Training became a Limited company.

Dan in the media &  Fitness Journalism

Dan has been regularly interviewed as a fitness expert by the national and international press for over 6 years now. (he has featured in over 75 different print publications and many websites) In 2010 Dan commenced to write his own monthly  features/articles for the award-winning magazines – Women’s Running and Men’s Running. Dan was also hired to present various fitness advice videos for Videojug. He has since filmed over 200 short fitness advice videos for them.  In addition, Dan has filmed giving celebrity body fitness advice for Very.co.uk and consulted as a fitness expert for a CH4 TV series, several major brands and is currently the Trainer & Nutritional consultant for his 2nd international model agency, ‘Tess Model Management’ in London.

Dan’s athletic achievements

Though he is a better coach than athlete, Dan loves sport and his varied competitive experiences have helped him better understand both his clients and the human body.  His major sporting achievements so far are:

  • Fighting: Lived as a full-time Muay Thai Kickboxer in Thailand, 2009/2010
  • Running: Competed in several 35+ mile ultra-marathons in the UK, 2005-2008
  • Lacrosse: Represented Team England, during the World Inter Championships in France, 1999
  • Tennis: Beat in competition a <400 Men’s ATP Tour Professional during a tournament in New York, 1998
